Eric Toney Will Have Broad Statewide Support for WI Attorney General. Look for a Tuesday Announcement

Eric Toney, district attorney of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, will once again be running for Attorney General of Wisconsin.

Our sources say that on Tuesday, October 21, Toney will make his announcement.

You’ll recall that Toney almost bested Josh Kaul in the 2022 election, and had only 35,000 votes shifted or that many more votes turned out for Toney, he would have won the race.

Josh Kaul will be going for his third term after inside reports say that Evers and he don’t get along and that is one reason Kaul decided not to run for governor, not to mention he likely wouldn’t win given the crowded field. Kaul has significant weaknesses as AG; in addition to lacking support from within his own party, he has failed to fix the crime lab, his office botched a federal audit response into crime victims services, he upset the mother of the victim of the notorious Halloween killer, and, just today, he is trying to prevent election officials from reviewing voter registrations to make sure voters are U.S. citizens. He’s turned his office into a partisan cudgel while mismanaging it.

Toney has been testing the waters for the last year, keeping his name out there, and lining up support, so it is likely he will be the only Republican candidate in the race for Attorney General.

Toney is only about 41 years old and has tremendous energy on his side, not to mention a large base of law enforcement officers’ and other district attorneys’ support given Toney’s leadership role in the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association (he was president). He is a pragmatic, public-safety focused, and principled prosecutor.

He even successfully lobbied for more funding for all assistant district attorneys with the state legislature. His broad, statewide support this time around is likely to prove the winning formula compared to the first time, when he was an unknown dark horse candidate.

Watch for the breaking news on Tuesday October 21.
