Leftist congressional candidate Rebecca Cooke is cozying up to the “architect of Democrats’ sanctuary city policies.” That revelation comes after Cooke, who had a previous career as a liberal fundraiser, rushed off when asked on camera, “Why did you call ICE disgusting”?
“This weekend, Rebecca Cooke held a fundraiser with former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a key architect of Democrats’ sanctuary city policies,” U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s campaign said in a press release. Cooke is a failed congressional candidate who is running against former Navy SEAL chief Van Orden for the second time in the 3rd congressional race.

“Emanuel served as the chief of staff in the Obama-Biden White House and helped to shape an administration that embraced disastrous open-border policies and expanded catch-and-release practices that have resulted in the senseless deaths of innocent Americans,” the Van Orden campaign noted.
In 2016, Emanuel declared that “Chicago is and will remain a Sanctuary City.”
“Nearly a decade later, our country is still living with the consequences of those policies, most recently seen in the tragic killing of Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman in Chicago,” the campaign wrote. “According to DHS, the Venezuelan national was caught and released at the border in 2023 and later released again by local authorities after a prior arrest before murdering the innocent 18-year-old college student.}
Van Orden’s press release lists “COOKE’S RADICAL IMMIGRATION RECORD” as the following:
“Endorsed Socialist Zohran Mamdani who signed an executive order to expand dangerous sanctuary city policies.”
“Called immigration enforcement ‘disgusting and wrong.'”
“Actively campaigns AGAINST Wisconsin’s voter ID amendment to ensure only Americans can vote in Wisconsin elections.”
“Refuses to answer if criminal illegal aliens should be deported.”
“Cooke is doubling down and embracing the same reckless policies that have cost innocent Americans their lives at the hands of illegal aliens. Cooke’s radical beliefs threaten the very communities Wisconsinites call home.The proof is right in front of us,” said Grace Kim, spokeswoman for Van Orden.
