Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley refused to say he was a capitalist in an interview with a Milwaukee newspaper. In fact, he said he isn’t a capitalist.
“Do you identify more with the label socialist or capitalist?” the Milwaukee Courier’s Drake Bentley asked Crowley.
“I wouldn’t label myself either,” he responded. (You can read his full comments here.)
Crowley is the establishment pick in the Democratic primary. He was endorsed by Gov. Tony Evers after suddenly returning to the race following the exodus of previous establishment pick, Sara Rodriguez. The article also revealed that some people have called Crowley “Kamala-Crowley” and that he has accepted corporate PAC money, including from WE Energies.
That has elevated scrutiny of Crowley, who sat at 3% in the most recent polling that included him. Crowley has told a possible four fibs in the past week along since getting in the race.
It’s widely believed that the Evers’ endorsement was engineered in an establishment effort to stop socialist Fran Hong. Even though she is part of a group that supports drafting a new U.S. Constitution and abolishing the presidency, the Wisconsin Democratic Party has said it would support whomever makes it through the primary, including Hong.
And Crowley also told the Milwaukee Courier that he would be willing to support a socialist who has written that she wants to abolish police, prisons and the U.S. Senate.
Crowley told Bentley that “whoever gets this primary on Aug. 11, I will be behind them,” when Bentley asked, “Would you support Hong if she were the nominee?” He said he considers it his job to “make sure we defeat Tom Tiffany.”
