“In case you missed it, hell yes, Radical Socialist Rebecca Cooke wants to take away your AR-15” – Hunter Lovell, Midwest Regional Communications Director for the RNC
Far left Congressional candidate Rebecca Cooke has repeatedly pushed gun control measures during her repeated attempts to oust Navy SEAL chief and U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden.
Cooke “has staked out a firmly progressive position on gun policy, backing sweeping reforms, including a ban on AR-15-style rifles,” Townhall reported. Gun control groups have touted her candidacy.
“Rebecca Cooke will take away your gun rights,” Van Orden wrote. “Take her word for it. Remember in November.”
Cooke’s support for severe gun control measures is out of step with the 3rd congressional district, where even former Democrat incumbent Ron Kind adopted a more measured approach, even splitting with his party on some gun control measures. The district is located on the western and northwestern side of the state.
Cooke has made it clear that she wouldn’t be a moderate Democrat like Kind. Rather, her positions make it clear that, if elected, she would support policies that erode district residents’ 2nd amendment rights, Van Orden says.
Van Orden, a former SEAL intelligence chief with five combat deployments, is a staunch supporter of gun rights and the 2nd Amendment.
Rebecca Cooke Voiced Support for Gun Control
Asked whether she would support an assault weapons ban, Cooke said, “I do. Yeah.”
Cooke is a failed congressional candidate and former left-wing political operative and campaign fundraiser (for the likes of Kirk Bangstad), who has tried to repackage herself as a waitress with a broken-down car. Voters rejected her liberal views in the 3rd congressional district before, electing Van Orden. Cooke is trying again, and this time she has added anti-ICE and pro-illegal immigration rhetoric to her campaign platform. She has also voiced support for a top socialist candidate, Zohran Mamdani.
“Radical Rebecca Cooke’s support for banning guns shows just how much of an extreme Democrat she really is. It’s clear she takes her cues directly from her pen pal, Mamdani. Radical Rebecca’s extreme views are far outside the mainstream in western Wisconsin,” RNC Spokesman Hunter Lovell said.
According to National Review, Cooke “has previously said she supports a ban on assault weapons and AR-15s.”
In 2022, she said, “The time for thoughts and prayers are over. We need meaningful gun reform now. I know that Wisconsin has a rich heritage in hunting and gamesmanship, but we’re not talking about AR-15s at deer camp,” according to recordings obtained by National Review.
She ticked off a series of gun control measures: “As somebody who is a candidate of distinction for Moms Demand Action, I support universal background checks. I support the enforcement of red flag laws that are put up when someone is having a mental health crisis or is a domestic abuser so they’re not a harm to themselves or others. I support the elimination of the Charleston Loophole.”
