Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Brings Dog in Bunny Costume to Meeting

Marcelia Nicholson, the chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board, brought a dog dressed as a bunny with her to a televised public committee meeting on January 18, 2023.

We asked Nicholson, “Why did you bring a dog with you to the committee meeting and why was it dressed as a bunny?” but received no response.

It turns out it’s not the first time Nicholson has brought her dog to a committee meeting about the use of goats for landscaping in county parks:

The dog’s attendance at the January 18 meeting raised some eyebrows. The dog was on the table where staff sits during meetings at one point.

“There she was, clear as day, holding a lap dog wearing a fluffy bunny costume,” a source told us. “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve taken my kids to work before. But a dog?”

Marcelia Nicholson brought the dog to the Committee on Health, Human Needs, and Strategic Planning, and it sat on her lap during a serious discussion of county COVID protocols.

A report discussed at the meeting says the county recently returned to masking requirements in “many public areas of Milwaukee County facilities including the Courthouse and Milwaukee County Transit System buses,” because of COVID-19.

Marcelia Nicholson has been a county supervisor since April 2016.
