Former state Attorney General Brad Schimel will be named interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, four sources have confirmed to Wisconsin Right Now.
Schimel is the former Waukesha County District Attorney and a former judge. He recently ran for Wisconsin Supreme Court. Schimel will be named the U.S. Attorney by President Donald Trump, according to the sources.
Wisconsin Right Now first broke the story.

Conservatives praised the choice on social media. “Best choice in the state!” wrote one. “Outstanding choice! Congratulations to Brad!” wrote another person.
WISN 1130 AM talk show host Dan O’Donnell has also confirmed the appointment.
In July, Chadwick Elgersma was appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin.
It was not immediately clear how the Federal Nominating Commission plays into this. That is a bipartisan commission that usually recommends U.S. attorney positions in Wisconsin. However, sources told WRN that the Schimel appointment is for four months, and he will need judges to sign on after that.
