Francesca Hong Is a Flustered Fake, a Shocking Example of Media Bias, and Gumby Goes to the Debate

Fran Hong is a fake revolutionary. You know; she’s like those tarot readers in Jackson Square when you visit New Orleans. She’s a charlatan. A snake oil saleswoman, profiting off other people’s pain. A political catfish.

She’s selling a legion of TikTok followers and downtrodden waitresses the fake grift that she will be different! She’s a fire-breathing revolutionary who will smash the system, the very picture of Patty Hearst with a gun and beret. She isn’t a normal politician! You’ll get to keep your tips and overtime! Except….she didn’t vote for that either.

Fran Hong is a fake.

She spent the entire day Tuesday acting exactly like a craven politician. By the end of the day, she had flipped to pro police (!) after a little pushback from Fox News. Then, cornered in the post-debate spin room by reporter Jason Calvi, who dared to ask her about past abolish the police tweets, a wild-eyed Hong practically flipped out on video, speaking too rapidly and robotically and getting notably pissed about it all.

Scary Hong was back. Yikes! If looks could kill!

Her problem is that she’s running from what she believes because consultants told her she can’t win with what she believes. But there’s too much in writing, so they’re trapping her in her own BS. I told you that Hong not being able to handle an interview on my show was a canary in the mine. The warrior princess is melting.

Tom kertscherI told you before that she can’t take the heat. Sorry, BLM. She sold you down the river now that she’s got a taste of power. Maybe you should protest her campaign events. She’d probably call the police on you like she did that Gaza protestor with the display. And without the crazy stuff, what’s the point? Then she’s just like any other boring legislator who gets schooled on policy by Joel Brennan.

Fran exposed that she believes in absolutely nothing except getting herself elected. Now, I’m of two minds about this. In a way, because she repudiated pretty much everything crazy she’s been saying the past few years, she might seem less scary to voters. On the other hand, voters prefer a candidate who clearly, consistently and strongly articulates their views – and stands for them even more strongly when attacked. It’s Trump’s entire strategy. And the wild-eyed agitation in the spin room was pretty scary indeed.

I’m confused – what the hell does Fran stand for anymore?

Tom kertscher
Fran hong, gumby, tom kertscher

First, her spokesperson went on national TV and said that Tom Tiffany was “lying”’when he asserted that Fran wants to abolish the Senate. So Tiffany posted a social media post in which Hong wrote, “Abolish the Senate.” Oops. Then the spokesperson clarified that Hong just didn’t remember the post.

This is one step short from David Crowley saying the dead guy wrote it. What is it with Democrats not remembering their own crazy tweets?
The spokesperson also said that Hong’s previous comments about abolishing police and prisons were “aspirational goals.”

No, they’re lunacy. I don’t know about you, but abolishing the police and prisons have never been aspirational goals of mine.

Media Bias Alert!

Enter Tom Kertscher, a former reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I know because I worked with him there decades ago. He’s always been nice to me, but how do I put this kindly? Tom is so boring that he makes Tony Evers look like he’d have a blast on Love Island. Tom should be a character in Office Space. “What would you say ya do here?”

Tom, slightly rumpled shirt and bespectacled: “I believe you have my stapler.”

I’ll tell you a secret about the media. A lot of the TV reporters are a bit too perfectly coiffed. There was this Milwaukee TV reporter once who was a trust fund baby from New York, and we used to joke about how they pranced around crime scenes in minus 20 degree weather wearing immaculate suits and shades. That reporter, who went on briefly to the networks, also once told me that all Milwaukee television reporters look like flight attendants. Try to unsee it. He was a funny guy whose dad was a bigwig in the Ivy League.

He also told me a great anecdote about a famous national television anchor who looked at his television highlight reel, and commented, “Is anyone still alive in Milwaukee?” Because it was all boring crime stories and footage. I’m not sure what happened to that guy. But the truth is, although they look like flight attendants, most TV reporters in Wisconsin are really nice (the national ones can be soulless barracudas.)

AJ Bayatpour is nice. Matt Smith is nice. Most are nice.

I’ll tell you another secret. Old print reporters in Milwaukee can be really mean. Some of the guys are nerds who couldn’t get a date in high school, and they’re perpetually taking it out with their pens on the popular guys who ascended to public office. They twist facts and censor information. If it’s a Republican.

Tom never struck me as that kind of guy, though; he was just an amiable dullard who looked like he worked for State Farm. He followed old Journal Sentinel honcho George Stanley to Wisconsin Watch. George is a big personality who holds grudges. He was always nice to me, though. But one thing I thought both of these guys got was journalism. So I’m honestly just really disappointed that Tom Kertscher decided to engage in a shocking example of media bias today. George retired from the site in spring, and it’s now run by a guy named Andy Pennington.

Wisconsin Watch is one of those lefty news enterprises that pretends it’s non-partisan but took oodles of money over the years from lefty donors, including George Soros. It was founded by a couple of Madison newspaper types; the woman broke the “caucus scandal” that ended with various legislators charged with crimes, although some of them just ended up on the lobbyist circuit.

Wisconsin Watch, part of the Center for Investigative Journalism, has a cozy relationship with UW-Madison (of course) that Scott Walker could have neutered when he was governor, but he didn’t. They do some good work. But they’re the kind of place more likely to write about poor illegal immigrants who are toiling away on dairy farms than about the violent illegal immigrants currently sitting in Wisconsin jails.

Recently, the Journal Sentinel announced that it was farming out its fact-checking efforts to Wisconsin Watch. See I just stopped pretending these kinds of places are the “unbiased” ones.

So what did Tom Kertscher do? Tom Tiffany shared a message in which Kertscher passed on writing a “Politifact” style story about whether Fran Hong was lying when her spokesperson said Tiffany was lying that she advocated for abolishing the Senate.

She literally wrote that she advocated abolishing the Senate on social media. It’s a clear cut lie. You’d think Wisconsin Watch would want to fact check that? Nope.

“I think we’re going to pass on this one because it’s one tweet and this doesn’t seem to be her position,” intoned Kertscher.
What!? She was caught in a LIE. Tim Russert must be turning over in his grave. His entire career was spent exposing how politicians’ old statements contradicted their self-serving new ones.

So this is the new rule? It was just one tweet? Oh, that crazy thing I wrote a couple months ago, don’t fact check it please because I don’t believe it anymore, just in time for the election. Somehow I don’t think they will be applying this new standard to Republicans. Sickening bias.

Liberal election lawyer Ann Jacobs did the fact checking herself.

“Fran Hong was not telling the truth about taxes tonight. She supports a 17.7% tax rate. Not just a 1% increase. Here’s the law she proposed,” she wrote after the debate.

The truth is Hong can run from her positions all she wants, but they’re in writing. Tiffany is going to spend millions in ad buys highlighting all of it.

She also wrote about cancelling Thanksgiving and called earning tips an example of white supremacy. I’m sure she will say she can’t remember that, either, but there will be much more to come.

DSA? What’s DSA?

The spokesperson also tried to distance Fran from the national DSA (socialist group) and its bonkers platform of abolishing the presidency, Senate, Supreme Court, capitalism, and drafting a new US Constitution. Hong is a card-carrying member.

They claim she wasn’t endorsed by National DSA. Well, she belongs to the group. And the Milwaukee and Madison DSA chapters endorsed her. Heck, the Milwaukee DSA Facebook page is a shrine to Hong and explains they are aggressively campaigning for her through door knocking, events, phone banks and more.

Then, as night hit, Gumby, I mean Hong, took the debate stage resplendent in a bright green pantsuit and decided to…support the police. Asked whether she would sign a budget defunding the police, Hong, speaking in that weirdly robotic voice again, said no. Let it be known, BLM, that Fran is now fascist adjacent.

Actually, Hong has a long record of anti-police votes and rhetoric as a legislator. She voted against penalizing communities that defund the police. The Wisconsin Electoral Socialists endorsed her based on her “commitment” to the causes of prison and police abolition. But that was then. This is about Fran now.

Fran is a fake.

Education Department Alleges Parents’ Rights Violations

The U.S. Department of Education's Student Privacy Policy Office and the Department of Justice allege that two school districts, Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland and Ann Arbor Public Schools in Michigan, have withheld information from parents regarding students' gender identity.

The SPPO and the DOJ plan to take enforcement action against the school district in Maryland after the district allegedly classified students' gender identity as confidential medical information that could not be shared with parents. The federal offices are also considering enforcement action against the Michigan district.

This follows complaints received by SPPO from parents in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, who said they learned that their daughter's school had been using a male name and pronouns for their child at school after receiving an email that referred to their daughter with male pronouns.

The investigations are part of the Trump administration's broader effort to scrutinize K-12 schools and universities over policies involving parental rights and gender identity. In announcing the actions, the Education Department alleged the districts were “secretly transitioning students and hiding it from parents.”

According to SPPO, when the parents in the Maryland district asked school administrators for more information, the principal declined to discuss the student's gender-related support at school, and the assistant principal did not provide the records the parents had requested.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools said it first learned of the federal allegations through the Education Department's press release and had not yet received any formal notice or supporting documentation. The district told The Center Square that it would review any official findings with legal counsel before responding and emphasized that it takes its obligations under FERPA seriously but could not comment on matters involving an individual student.

The Department of Education states that withholding this kind of sensitive information violates the parental rights protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

“Let this serve as notice to every school district in the country: FERPA is not optional,” Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, said in a statement sent to The Center Square. “The Department of Justice will enforce it to the maximum extent of the law, and any district that hides a child's sensitive information from their own parents should expect immediate federal action.”

The SPPO also determined that Ann Arbor Public Schools' policy directing employees not to disclose a student's transgender status to parents likely violates FERPA.

The Education Department has given the district until Aug. 10 to explain why enforcement action should not proceed and to justify its policy of maintaining certain records related to a student's gender identity in a separate filing system.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon said the administration believes schools should not withhold information about a child's gender identity from parents.

The Center Square reached out to Ann Arbor Public Schools for a comment but did not receive a response.

Bangstad Blames Politics, Conspiracy for Losing Brewing Permit

(The Center Square) – One time Wisconsin candidate for governor Kirk Bangstad says politics and a conspiracy from the state’s big brewers is to blame for losing his brewers permit.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue confirmed that it revoked Bangstad’s brewing permit for his taprooms in Minocqua and Madison.

The state opened an investigation into Bangstad after he was selling beer brewed in Illinois in his taprooms in Wisconsin without paying the proper taxes.

On Monday, Bangstad wrote on Facebook that the charges are “laughable.”

"I couldn’t believe it and neither could the law firm that handles my liquor permits," Bangstad wrote. "They both believe that someone in Wisconsin’s government is trying to make an example out of me, and they’ve told me to fight this with everything I’ve got."

Bangstad then claimed he's really a victim of both Gov. Tony Evers' and Wisconsin's other, bigger breweries.

"Our brewery is very popular among progressives throughout the Upper Midwest because we actively fight against right-wing authoritarianism and corruption. As a result of our political activism, we’ve been boycotted by beer distributors and major grocery chains," he added. "Once you 'understand' that all of the laws that [the DOR] said we broke were created to help large distributors take advantage of small breweries, you can see the 'whole picture,' and how the government can use byzantine liquor laws to put 'mouthy brewers' out of business."

Bangstad has made no secret of his progressive politics and has been a frequent critic of Evers.

Bangstad briefly ran for governor earlier this year but dropped his bid when he failed to make the ballot.

Bangstad said he is exploring his legal options and is promising to stay in business if he can.

" I’m not taking this lying down. We’re going to fight the state of Wisconsin tooth and nail, and once again, they’ll have to pry me out of my taprooms before I stop selling beer to thirsty progressives who come to visit us," he wrot

Wisconsin Democratic Gubernatorial Debate Coming Tuesday Night

(The Center Square) - The five Democrats running for governor will take part in a debate at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, two weeks before the state’s Aug. 11 primary.

Former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, state Rep. Francesca Hong, businessman Joel Brennan, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and state Sen. Kelda Roys will be at the hourlong event, hosted by WISN. It will be moderated by WISN’s Gerron Jordan and Matt Smith and streamed for free along with running on stations such as Green Bay (WBAY), Madison (WKOW), Wausau (WAOW), Eau Claire (WQOW) and La Crosse (WXOW).

Hong led the race again in the most recent Marquette Poll, which included Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez but not Crowley, because Rodriguez withdrew from the race after polling was completed. Crowley reentered the race after Rodriguez left.

Hong was vocal in her criticism of Madison Police after the shooting of Corey Ruiz, who reportedly had a knife, by officers. She called the shooting an execution while Barnes called for transparency and Crowley said that it was a reminder of other tragedies in the state.

Crowley has also faced questions about postings on his old “Dirt McGirk” Twitter account.

Early voting has already begun with lawsuits filed last week to change Wisconsin Election Commission guidance that early arriving absentee ballots cannot be spoiled and recast after Rodriguez dropped out of the race and to allow provisional ballots from those whose absentee ballots were not expected to arrive by Election Day due to U.S. Postal Service delays.

Republican congressman Tom Tiffany is the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican nomination over Andy Manske in the primary.
