Unborn Baby Initially Saved in Milwaukee Reckless Driving Crash Dies

Monique Stewart, a 32-year-old Milwaukee woman who was 8 months pregnant, was named as the woman who died when a reckless driver sped 100 miles per hour through an intersection, crashing into a Caravan carrying Stewart and her family. First responders were able to briefly save Stewart’s baby boy, but he only lived 7.5 hours before dying.

“The decedent’s male infant (approximately 30 weeks and 5 days gestation) was delivered via emergency C-Section and lived for approximately 7 ½ hours before being pronounced dead on 1/8 at 12:30am at Children’s NICU,” the Medical Examiner’s office says.

Monica Stewart is the second pregnant woman to lose her life to a reckless driver in just a few months. In November, Erin Marie Mogensen, also 32 and pregnant, lost her life when a reckless driver, also traveling over 100 miles per hour, crashed into her car at Capitol Drive and Highway 100. The baby also perished.

The tragedies continue to mount in the wake of a deleted police force and the disastrous City of Milwaukee settlement known as the Collins Agreement, which has led to plummeting traffic enforcement and field stops in the city. Traffic stops decreased 79% since the ACLU lawsuit against MPD.

Stewart described herself as a digital creator on Facebook. Her top post shows ultrasound photos. She wrote on October 23, “God knew i needed redirection in my life that’s why he blessed me with you I can’t be happier I got my BOY ….8 years later I get to be a mother again #March2024 CAT IS DEFINITELY OUT THE BAG ❤️🤰🏾😘😘😘”

Monique C. Stewart, 32, of Milwaukee, was “the passenger of a vehicle that was struck by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. She was 30-weeks pregnant and underwent a perimortem C-section in the ED,” the medical examiner‘s report says. She was eight months pregnant.

When they took Stewart to the hospital, doctors tried trauma interventions to no avail.

Stewart was in a Black Dodge Caravan that was driving west on Brown Deer Road and attempting to turn left onto North Servite Drive when a white Chevy traveling at 100 miles per hour going east on Brown Deer Road struck the Caravan on the passenger side. The crash occurred on Sunday.

Stewart was sitting in the rear passenger seat and her mother was driving the van. Stewert’s brother and two children were also inside the car. The driver of the other vehicle is in police custody. The mother and brother were also injured so they were not able to speak with police. They are expected to survive, however.

Police said previously that the suspect is 18 and in custody.

Friends and family shared the tragic news. “He wrong he so wrong 😩 Monique Stewart your baby boy is with you now praying for her baby girl … this is happening to often yall need to slow down look at what yall are doing to people families 🙏🏾😩💔” wrote one.

Another woman wrote, “whew Monique Stewart u hurt my feelings with this one she supported my boutique since the first day i open , very genuine loving woman ! You journey is complete here God needed u more than us 😩.”

“Death getting closer & closer‼️ Yall really have too slow down on them roads man… He was so excited too be having his first boy & yall took that away from him smh.. RIP Monique Stewart,” wrote another.

A family member wrote, “Omg not my family having another loss pray for my family. Stay from behind the wheel with this senseless driving. She was someone mother, daughter, cousin, niece and friend. Praying for everyone this one is a hard one. Rest up my beautiful Cousin Monique Stewart gone too soon.”

2026 GOP Candidate Josh Schoemann Challenges Evers’ Budget Approach

(The Center Square) – Josh Schoemann, the only Republican currently in the race for governor next year, is criticizing Gov. Tony Evers’ approach to the next state budget by comparing it to his plans in Washington County.

“In Washington County our budget cycle starts right now, and it’s not due until November. We will propose our budget goals to the County Board in the next couple of months. We will share ‘This is what we’re thinking.’ It gives them months of time to think those through, give us feedback, and [have] that kind of dialogue,” Schoemann explained in an interview on News Talk 1130 WISN.

Schoemann said that is far better than the approach Evers is taking again this year.

“That’s not how government is supposed to work,” Schoemann said. “It’s not the vision of the governor. It’s not the vision of any one person.”

Evers and the Republican legislative leaders who will write the budget have been involved in on-again, off-again budget talks this month. On Thursday, the governor’s office said those talks were off once again because of gridlock in the Senate.

“Ultimately, the Senate needs to decide whether they were elected to govern and get things done or not,” Evers spokesperson Britt Cudaback said in a post on X.

Schoemann’s criticism of Evers is nothing new. He has long been a critic of the governor and has turned that criticism up since launching his campaign for governor.

But the recent criticism was also aimed at other Republicans who may jump into the 20206 governor’s race later this year.

“Nobody else in this race on the Republican side, being rumored to this point, has the executive leadership of skills and history to be able to show ‘This is how I’ve done it before, and here’s how we’ll do it Madison,’” Schoemann said. “The results in Washington County speak for themselves.”

Northwoods Congressman Tom Tiffany is also rumored to be looking to get into the Republican race. Before he went to Congress, Tiffany was a Republican lawmaker in Madison.

Businessman and veteran Bill Berrien is also on the short list of likely GOP candidates for 2026.
