Speaker Vos Announces State of the Tribes Address

Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) would like to announce that the 17th Annual State of the Tribes address is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11 at 1 p.m. in the Wisconsin State Assembly. The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. has notified the speaker’s office that President John Johnson Sr. of Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians will be giving this year’s address.

“This annual event increases public awareness around the issues tribal nations face,” said Speaker Vos. “I’m glad we can continue this Assembly tradition; it allows us to find areas of shared concern that can be worked on collaboratively.”

The State of the Tribes address began in 2005. Each year the council selects a member to give the speech. This year public seating for the address will be limited due to COVID restrictions. The address will be live-streamed for the public on WisconsinEye.
