Eric Toney for Attorney General Announces Record-Breaking Fundraising Haul as Josh Kaul Refuses to Call Out ‘Abolish the Police’ Rhetoric

Eric Toney Raised $720K in Fundraising Period, Over $1.1 Million Since Launch Surpasses Fundraising Total From Toney’s Entire 2022 Campaign

Republican candidate for Attorney General Eric Toney announced Wednesday that his campaign raised more than $720,000 in the first six months of the election year, “marking the top historical fundraising total for a Republican candidate for attorney general during the reporting period. It is also the most by a non-incumbent for that reporting period.”

Meanwhile, Democrat AG Josh Kaul, Toney’s opponent, has stayed conspicuously silent as the Democrat front runner for governor in his own party pushes an extreme agenda of abolishing the police, prisons and US Senate. Kaul specifically declined an opportunity to call that out.

Toney, who has brought a vigorous public safety message to the campaign, is a former president of the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association and a DA of the year. He has focused on AG Josh Kaul’s mismanagement of the core functions of his office, including Kaul’s imploding state crime lab. Kaul is taking far fewer cases while delaying processing evidence longer; that evidence is needed to make criminal cases all over the state. Toney has stressed that he is running to get partisan politics out of the office and to focus on keeping the state safe.

Toney’s strong fundraising numbers come before any transfers from the state Republican Party; many political observers expect that the party will invest heavily in Toney’s race as the general election nears. Toney doesn’t have a primary.

Toney’s campaign “raised more than $1.1 million since launching – surpassing the total amount Toney raised over the entirety of his 2022 campaign for attorney general,” his campaign says.

“Wisconsinites are tired of Josh Kaul’s broken promises and are ready for change at the Department of Justice. Voters recognize that a third term for Kaul would be a rubber stamp for the abolish-the-police socialists who are taking over the Democratic Party,” said Eric Toney. “This level of support for a non-incumbent is proof that voters are fed up and want someone who will put public safety over politics. We are building the resources and the momentum to win in November and finally bring common-sense leadership back to the DOJ.”

Toney’s fundraising haul “reflects sustained grassroots and law enforcement support for his campaign, including the bipartisan endorsements from over half the sheriffs across Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Police Association, and other law enforcement groups. He is in his 14th year as a District Attorney and is the past president of the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association. He was the 2024 Wisconsin District Attorney of the Year and received an Unsung Hero award from the Wisconsin Law Journal for his bipartisan budget work that delivered significant public safety resources across Wisconsin,” said his campaign.
