Senator Tammy Baldwin Voices Support for Bringing Palestinian Refugees to the U.S.

“Sen. Baldwin’s support for bringing thousands of Hamas supporters into America and making taxpayers bear the burden of providing housing, health care and schooling is incomprehensible and a dereliction of duty” – Businessman Eric Hovde.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), under growing pressure from left-wing pro-Hamas activists, is voicing support for a possible Joe Biden plan to bring Palestinian refugees into the U.S. from Gaza.

Baldwin, a liberal, has already flip-flopped and called for Israel to engage in a ceasefire with the terrorist group Hamas, after being hounded by pro-Gaza activists at campaign appearances. She has a long history of going soft on Israel’s enemies, including Iran. She has also been weak on border issues and immigration.

“One vulnerable senator POLITICO surveyed gave a slightly more positive response to the administration’s reported plans” than other Democrats, Politico reported on May 9, referring to Baldwin, who is locked in an increasingly close re-election battle with businessman Eric Hovde.

Asked about a potential Biden plan to import Palestinian refugees, Baldwin told Politico in a statement: “The U.S. has a proud tradition of sheltering innocent civilians fleeing war and persecution while also ensuring Americans’ safety. Refugees are thoroughly vetted before they enter the United States to ensure they are not a threat to Americans.”

The statement drew immediate condemnation from Hovde and other Republicans. It’s also noteworthy that Baldwin is now being labeled a “vulnerable” senator by national publications.

“It was just seven months ago we saw thousands of people in Israel attacked by terrorists and Palestinians take to the streets to celebrate the murder of hundreds of civilians,” Hovde responded.

“Sen. Baldwin’s support for bringing thousands of Hamas supporters into America and making taxpayers bear the burden of providing housing, health care and schooling is incomprehensible and a dereliction of duty that puts our state and our country in danger,” the Republican businessman said.

“At a time when pro-Hamas Palestinians are chanting ‘Death to America,’ Tammy Baldwin thinks it’s a good idea to bring them to Wisconsin. Baldwin is so afraid of offending the anti-Israel, anti-American, radical fringes of her party that she is willing to put our country’s security at risk,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Spokesman Tate Mitchell said in a statement.

According to Politico, Biden’s plan “would open a pathway for entry to Palestinian refugees who have family members that are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.”

“We are constantly evaluating policy proposals to further support Palestinians who are family members of American citizens and may want to come to the United States,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in early May, according to The Associated Press. AP reported that “discussions were underway.”

Politico reported that other vulnerable Democrats are talking tougher about the Biden possible plan than Baldwin is; “I’ve been clear that allowing anyone to enter the country without being properly vetted and going through a legal process undermines our national security,” said Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) to Politico. “And that neighboring countries in the region including Egypt and Jordan should play a leading role in taking in refugees.”
