Wauwatosa police say they responded to a report of shots fired at Mayfair Mall on October 21.

At around 6:30 p.m., police “responded for a report of shots fired at Mayfair Mall. A victim was located at the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The suspect has yet to be identified. There is no danger to the public,” police wrote on Facebook.

“This is an on-going investigation, additional information will be released as it becomes available,” they wrote.

They did not provide additional details.

Mayfair Mall has been the site of protests for months after a Wauwatosa Police Officer, Joseph Mensah, shot and killed an armed teenager in the parking lot of the shopping center. The teen, Alvin Cole, had the weapon inside the mall, police said. The Milwaukee County District Attorney cleared Mensah in that shooting, although his employment hangs in the balance. There’s no evidence the shooting had anything to do with the protests, though.

A woman wrote on the Wauwatosa PD’s comment thread, “Well thats what was going on when we left PF Changs..ahhhh.” Another woman responded, “Was it outside? I was outside earlier in yard and heard some shots from that direction. I thought firing practice. Wonder if that’s what I heard now. Like 5 shots about!?”

The first woman explained, “we were inside when it occured but right by our car there were police and people standing around, inspecting one of the light poles..maybe bullets hit it!? Didnt hear anything from inside.”

Another woman commented: “That’s a shame, Mayfair is turning into another Northridge where shoppers will be scared to go.”
