🚨 Did you know?
As if the 7th congressional district race couldn’t get crazier, the leading Democrat, former state Rep. Fred Clark, once:
- Ran a red light and struck and injured a bicyclist near the state Capitol. He was cited. It’s all on video:
- Was caught on tape saying he felt like “smacking her around,” referring to a female constituent. He thought the woman had hung up on him, but her voicemail recorded his comment to an aide. He later apologized. Here’s the transcript:

- Is a transplant to the 7th Congressional District (Tom Tiffany’s old district in northern Wisconsin), as he was a state rep out of Baraboo until about 2014.
- Once paid back child support. He has a long explanation about that.
You wouldn’t know this from the recent news, which has painted him as a mild-mannered conservationist.
Fred Clark Touts Himself as a ‘Leader Who Will Stand Up’
Previously, the media lionized Clark as a “folksy forester.” Clark touts himself as a “leader who will stand up” on his website.
The Democrat primary is in August. The other candidates running are lawyer Ginger Murray and Chris Armstrong.
The Republican field has whittled down to Sean Duffy’s son-in-law, Mike Alfonso; former Iran hostage/businessman Kevin Hermening; Ashley Furniture official Jessi Ebben; and dog musher Niina Baum.
