Republicans all posted about milk, farming and dairy today. It’s Dairy Month. Democrats posted about gay people. Democrat gubernatorial candidate David Crowley added a rant about “protecting evidence-based health care” to his obligatory Pride Month post. I must have missed it; was someone targeting evidence-based healthcare?
Tony Evers hoisted a pride flag at the state Capitol; Tom Tiffany said he’d take it down (or just not raise it.) He wants to depoliticize Capitol flags. Which is all great, but I’d rather this election focus on the economy.
It was revealed that Trump is coming to Wisconsin on Friday to talk about farming (ie, to get the vote out for Derrick Van Orden, the former Navy SEAL running against a former Kirk Bangstad employee.) All of this farm-cow-milk talk is because it’s Dairy Month.
Since Democrats want to pretend like they care about rural folk too (which is why they had Mandela Barnes sit on a lake a couple months ago), the state Democrat party posted a graphic showing a couple of bulls complete with a glass of milk emoji. This was not a joke. But it ended up perfectly capturing the Democratic mindset.
That’s Not a Cow!

Tom Tiffany, who was actually raised on a farm and has a degree in ag, then reminded the Democrats that bulls don’t produce milk. For good measure, he re-posted a video showing him sitting at a red table in a field surrounded by cows with a glass of milk. And then he reminded people the Democrats also think men can get pregnant. Maybe Democrat bulls identify as a cows.
All of this talk of milk and Tom Tiffany (he had a glass of milk at the Wispolitics luncheon the other day, carefully positioned for the cameras), made me think that he’s running as a Republican version of Herb Kohl. Who doesn’t remember Herb’s iconic Wisconsin State Fair milkhouse?
Democrat Chairman Devin “Temu Ben Wikler, according to DVO” Remiker or the hapless social media intern there subsequently turned the bull graphic into a couple of steaks. And again I am not joking. So now the Democrats have killed the bulls to celebrate Dairy Month. How nice. Don’t tell PETA or the vegans. Devin must have watched the latest episode of Dutton Ranch.
All this silliness did is remind people that Democrats look really phony when they try to appeal to rural Wisconsin. They’re champagne liberals who have lost touch with the working class no matter how many tips populist Francesca Hong wants government to take away. Their rear ends are parked in Madison coffeehouses, not Spooner dairy breakfasts. I think I stole that “champagne liberal” line from Spencer Pratt. Imagine what he would have done with the Wisconsin Democrat bull graphic. The Wisconsin Dems are “latte liberals,” though.
A guy named Jerry Ponio noted on social media, “Remember when Wisconsin democrats, like @FrancescaHongWI and @keldahelenroys voted against a bill to freeze @GovEvers 1700% fee increase on farmers…” Actually, no. I had forgotten. Thank you Jerry.
Now onto other news.
Dianne Hesselbein, Uber Villain
State Senate minority leader Dianne Hesselbein, another Democrat, is the uber villain of the failed surplus deal story, but she’s flown beneath the radar because she took a metaphorical shiv to taxpayers with a silken smile on her face. She’s like one of those Netflix cheerleader moms who camouflage their scheming with a saccharine smile.
And so it was on Monday when she was cornered by various reporters, who asked her about Robin Vos and Tony Evers agreeing to hold another special session to revive the deal. She plopped it all on the narrow shoulders of hapless Republican senate leader Devin LeMahieu. It’s his fault because he won’t agree to a new special session! She claimed he told her as much. This was convenient; she’s trying to divert attention from the fact that she, more than anyone else in this state, is responsible for the surplus deal failing and the government keeping your rebate check.
She kept her caucus – every one of them – unified against funding schools and giving relief to taxpayers, even disabled veterans. She orchestrated their no votes to kill a deal that would have ended taxation on people’s overtime and tips – and she revealed that she’s heard no regrets from any of the Democrats. Not one of them is regretting yanking millions from school districts around the state. But now it was Devin’s fault? I wrote Devin’s office and asked if it is true that he won’t support a new special session. After all, this is just a game of telephone at this point – Matt Smith says Dianne says Devin says… but he and his office didn’t even have the courtesy to respond. So who knows?
Dianne Hesselbein was a Dane County supervisor for years, which says it all. She’s the person who outmaneuvered Tony Evers. Maybe Matt Smith should ask her whether she knows the difference between a bull and a cow. I’m guessing that question would offend her, and she’d demand a trigger warning.
