CNN has belatedly discovered that the Wisconsin Democrat Party’s front runner for governor, state Rep. Francesca Hong, wants to abolish police.
But it’s worse than that. The state rep has called herself an “anti-capitalist,” so perhaps she wants to abolish that too? And she was praised for wanting to abolish prisons. Hong didn’t back down from the police abolition stance to CNN, either. “Unlike others, Hong did not disavow those comments when asked but now says, ‘I recognize that this paradigm shift is a very long term vision,'” the CNN author, Andrew Kaczynski, wrote on X.
It seems clear that the Democrat establishment is starting to organize against Hong.
We’ve been reporting for months that Hong was a police (and prison) abolitionist, though, as well as an anti-capitalist. It’s not hard to find. She’s open about her views on police on social media.
Let’s unpack the evidence.
Francesca Hong Described Herself in 2025 as an ‘Anti-Capitalist’
In 2025, Hong said, “I am a business owner who is anti-capitalist.”
When the Wisconsin Electoral Socialists endorsed Hong, the group noted that she, and state Rep. Ryan Clancy, had “intentionally aligned themselves” with a “commitment to police and prison abolition.” The group said it would hold Hong and Clancy to those commitments.
Hong wrote in 2021, “We must collectively work to end the violence and abolish the police state. Reform has never been the answer to this system of harm.” Our bold.
Hong wrote in 2020 that “policing as a culture promoted violence” and advocated for mental health professionals and social workers instead of police.
In 2020, Hong called Wisconsin “the most segregated state in the nation” and referred to “police violence.” She wrote, “I support defunding the police as a first step toward abolishing the police.”
